School District Data Collection

State data collection does not allow the student-to-teacher link that is necessary for an analysis of new University of Texas System graduates' effectiveness in the classroom. Therefore, NCEA works with school districts in Texas to supply this link.

Our request to districts asks for data linking students and teachers for all students in selected districts in grades 4 through 11. In order to insure confidentiality, data is sent directly from the districts to the Texas Education Agency, where staff will encrypt the data using a unique encryption algorithm developed specifically for this study. Then, after additional student level variables are added, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will provide the encrypted data to NCEA.

An example of the data format is below:

001902 Cayuga ISD
County/District Campus Code PEIMS Course Code Teacher Social Security Number Student Social Security Number Grade Level
001902003 02000000 444556666 888997777 4
001902003 02000000 444556666 222334444 4
001902003 02000000 444556666 777889999 4

Absolutely no student or teacher participation is needed. All study results will be presented in terms of the teacher preparation program or university. This study is not an evaluation of individuals, campuses or school districts; it is an evaluation of teacher preparation programs. Therefore, absolutely no individual, campus, or district results will be made public in any way.
